Lucky Motor, the authorized assembler and distributor of KIA vehicles in Pakistan, is preparing to take a significant step in the country’s electric vehicle market by introducing a range of electric SUVs, including the premium EV9 model.
Muhammad Faisal, CEO of Lucky Motor, announced that the flagship KIA SUV, the EV9, will be launched soon, along with plans for a more compact model, the EV3, in the future.
The new electric vehicles (EVs) will be imported as completely built units (CBUs). After the successful debut of the KIA EV5 in October 2024, which has already been delivered to numerous buyers, the company remains optimistic about the growing demand for EVs in Pakistan.
The EV5 variants include the long-range Earth model, capable of covering 620 km on a single charge, priced at Rs23 million, and the short-range Air model, offering 480 km at Rs18.5 million.
Faisal highlighted that the primary buyers of the EV5 are corporate executives and business owners from major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
He also acknowledged that the local market is gradually adopting electric vehicles, viewing them as symbols of status despite their higher costs compared to conventional cars.
The government is actively promoting EV adoption and plans to establish 3,500 charging stations in collaboration with a Chinese firm. However, Faisal expressed skepticism about the ambitious target of increasing EVs to 30% of total sales by 2030, estimating it may only reach 10%.
Lucky Motor’s entry into the electric vehicle sector reflects the broader shift toward sustainable transportation in Pakistan as the company aims to cater to the growing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles.
