The scale of the destruction continues to grow as the fires spread and claims mount.
Los Angeles: Since Tuesday, wildfires have wreaked havoc across Los Angeles County, killing at least 11 people, destroying 10,000 buildings, and forcing around 180,000 people to evacuate.
Five major fires are currently burning:
- The Palisades Fire has consumed 86 square kilometers (33 square miles).
- The Eaton Fire has burned 56 square kilometers (22 square miles).
- Three smaller fires, the Kenneth Fire (4 sq km), Hurst Fire (3 sq km), and Lidia Fire (1.6 sq km), are largely contained.
The fires have burned through 150 square kilometers of land.
At least 10,000 buildings have been destroyed, with over 5,000 lost in the Palisades Fire and between 4,000 to 5,000 in the Eaton Fire.
Approximately 180,000 people have been evacuated, and authorities have issued a curfew in affected areas.
The estimated damage is between $135 billion and $150 billion, making these fires potentially the most costly in history.
