Lorde, the 28-year-old New Zealand singer and songwriter, is gearing up for the release of her first original song in four years.
She shared a preview of her upcoming track titled “WWT”—believed to be an abbreviation for “What Was That?”
The clip was shared on Wednesday via TikTok, featuring the “Royal” hitmaker filming herself running through Washington Square Park in New York City as the song plays in the background.

The teaser included the lyrics: “Since I was seventeen / I gave you everything / Now, we wake from a dream / Well, baby, what was that?”
The singer also shared several images via Instagram, further fueling anticipation for the upcoming release.
Just prior to the TikTok reveal, Lorde archived her previous social media posts and changed her profile picture to an image of a chrome metal water bottle. Her official website is currently also blank.
Her Instagram bio now reads: “THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME— A RETURN TO INNOCENCE— THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD— AN ITCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENTAL”.
Fans speculate that the new song is a precursor to the award-winning singer’s fourth studio album.
Her last original release, the third studio album “Solar Power,” came out in 2021—following her 2013 debut “Pure Heroine” and 2017’s “Melodrama.”
However, the Grammy winner initially rose to global fame with her 2013 hit song “Royals,” which topped the US charts for nine consecutive weeks.
