Fans of Lizzo and SZA have exciting news to look forward to! The two highly acclaimed artists are seemingly combining their talents for an upcoming “mixtape,” as suggested by SZA herself.
SZA took to her official Instagram Story to share the intriguing development, posting, “Working on a guest star for bookie Lizzo’s new mixtape [heart emoji].” This announcement strongly implies a collaborative project is in the works, poised to generate considerable anticipation.
This revelation follows Lizzo’s own confirmation in March that she had completed work on her eagerly awaited fifth studio album, titled Love In Real Life. Lizzo had previously shared her enthusiasm with fans in a separate Instagram post, detailing an exceptionally productive day: “ALBUM IS DONE YALL! ASTROLOGY EXPERTS Do my mercury got micro braids? Cus I got an emergency root canal, announced SNL finished my album all in one day today (sic).”
Their decision to collaborate comes as no surprise to those aware of their long-standing friendship. In a 2023 interview with UPROXX, SZA spoke warmly about her bond with the “About Damn Time” hitmaker. She reminisced, “Me and Lizzo, we’ve been friends since, like, 2013, but it was very organic and very random. One day we were on the same tour, and I was like, ‘We’re about to drive out to Lake Michigan, do you want to come?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, let’s go.’”
SZA further elaborated on the natural progression of their connection: “And then we just got drunk and hung out, and we kept doing that, and then our lives and careers progressed, and we kept talking and hanging out.” She concluded by recalling a moment that perfectly encapsulated the essence of their friendship: “The other day, I went over to her house. My tummy was hurting because I ate too much, and she gave me a muumuu, and we just laid in the yard and did nothing, and I was like, ‘Yeah, this is what the f**k friendship is about.’”
