Lebanon has announced its decision to file an official complaint with the United Nations against Israel regarding the controversial construction of a border wall. This move is sharply escalating the already fragile border tensions between the two long-time adversaries.
According to a news agency report from Beirut, the Lebanese Presidency stated that the complaint will specifically address Israel’s construction of the wall beyond the Blue Line on Lebanon’s southern border. The Blue Line is the UN-demarcated line established to separate Lebanon, Israel, and the occupied Golan Heights.
The Lebanese Presidency firmly asserted that the Israeli construction along the border constitutes a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions, particularly since Israeli forces withdrew behind the Blue Line in the year 2000. The Presidency stated that these construction activities are contrary to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging the international community to take immediate action.
