LaTanya Richardson Jackson, 75, recently shared her experiences on an episode of Sherri, reflecting on the complexities of directing her husband, Samuel L. Jackson, in the movie The Piano Lesson.
When asked if the Oscar nominee was receptive to direction, LaTanya disagreed, playfully calling him “old” and someone who “thinks he knows everything.”
“He’s been there, done that, and who are you,” the two-time Tony Award-nominated actress, director, and producer humorously told host Sherri Shepherd.
LaTanya recounted telling her husband about directing the project, “In this room, it’s about what I say,” emphasizing the importance of “setting the tone” for the entire cast.
“I need them listening to me,” she added. LaTanya then admitted that her husband’s extensive experience did prove useful at times, after which she would tell him, “Okay, go sit over there then, because we’re over here working.”
The couple married in 1980 after first meeting while LaTanya attended Spelman College and Samuel studied at Morehouse College.
