Lahore, Pakistan – The Lahore administration has issued trade licenses to 2246 sellers for the upcoming Basant festival, allowing them to sell patangs (kites) and dars (kite strings) in the city. This move comes as the administration seeks to promote the festival, which has been a major tourist attraction in the past. In a statement, the Lahore administration said that a total of 2504 applications were received for trade licenses, with 95 applications rejected and 163 traders registered. The administration has also announced that the registration process for patang and dor sellers will continue until February 8.
Meanwhile, the city’s administrative officers have been asked to report to duty as the preparations for Basant and other events are underway. Commissioner Lahore, Mrs. Maira Khan, said that all assistant commissioners and related departments will be on duty in the field on the day of the festival to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to ensure public safety.
The administration has also announced that awareness and safety drives will continue in the city, with a focus on educating the public about the dangers of kite-flying and other activities during the festival.
