The Punjab government has given the green light to a major plan to build a 40-kilometer green corridor in Lahore, aimed at tackling the city’s increasing air pollution and smog. This corridor will run from Shahdara to Raiwind, converting the area along the railway track into green belts.
The project will feature various recreational spaces for the public. It also plans to repurpose old railway carriages into libraries and cafés to boost community engagement. The initiative is estimated to cost more than Rs2.35 billion and will span approximately 700 kanals of land. The Punjab Housing Department announced that the green corridor is expected to be completed within one year. This project is part of a broader strategy to address Lahore’s environmental and public health issues.
