LONDON – In a decisive move addressing the sexual abuse scandal that has rocked the British monarchy, King Charles has stripped his younger brother, Andrew, of his “Prince” title. Furthermore, all of his remaining royal privileges are set to be formally confiscated today.
According to foreign media, these privileges include all official titles, honors, and his state residence, formalizing his complete removal from public life.
Andrew, who had already stepped down as the Duke of York earlier this month due to the allegations, will now be known simply as “Andrew Mountbatten” after losing the title of Prince.
The move comes after severe accusations from Virginia Roberts Giuffre, an American citizen. Giuffre alleged that Prince Andrew sexually assaulted her on three separate occasions in 2001—in London, New York, and the US Virgin Islands—when she was only 17 years old. Prince Andrew has consistently denied these allegations.
Reports indicate that Andrew will now move to the private Sandringham Estate, which will be privately funded by the King.
Buckingham Palace issued a statement focusing on the victims, declaring, “The King’s sympathies are, and remain, with the victims and survivors.”
