Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III has made a significant decision, appointing singer-songwriter Errollyn Wallen as the Master of the King’s Music. This marks the first major appointment of his reign.
The announcement came shortly after Princess Kate attended a service at Crathie Church on the Balmoral Estate on Sunday. The royal family shared a heartfelt photo of the King along with the news of the appointment, celebrating Wallen’s distinguished career.
The honorary title is given to a musician who has greatly contributed to the musical life of the UK and the Commonwealth. The palace highlighted Wallen’s achievements, noting that she was the first black woman to have her work featured in the Proms and that she composed music for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Wallen, who was born in Belize and is a British composer, pianist, and singer-songwriter, previously received an OBE from King Charles in 2007 when he was still the Prince of Wales. She expressed her excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to accept this royal appointment.”
