Prince Edward, who was elevated to the title of Duke of Edinburgh in 2023, may soon receive a significant honor from his elder brother, King Charles III, amid ongoing tensions with Prince Andrew. According to recent reports, the 75-year-old monarch is poised to make a decisive move that could send a strong message to non-working royals like Prince Andrew and Prince Harry.
Prince Edward, the youngest son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has significantly increased his royal duties, particularly as King Charles and Princess Kate have been battling cancer. In 2023, Edward took on 297 royal engagements, making him the third most active royal that year, while his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, followed with 219 engagements.
Impressed by the couple’s dedication and loyalty, King Charles is reportedly considering offering Prince Edward and Sophie the Royal Lodge, a property on the Windsor Estate currently occupied by Prince Andrew. Despite their longstanding differences, the King has recognized the Edinburghs’ contributions, particularly in filling the gaps left by the absence of Charles and Kate during their health struggles.
However, such a move could potentially disrupt family dynamics, as the Edinburghs currently reside at Bagshot Park under a long lease from the Crown Estate. Additionally, Prince Andrew, who has lived at Royal Lodge since 2003 under a 75-year lease, is reportedly resisting efforts to vacate the property. There are also rumors that King Charles recently removed Andrew’s 10-man security detail in an attempt to pressure him to leave the Windsor residence.
