Peshawar High Court Chief Justice SM Atiq Shah dismissed a petition filed against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Saeed Afridi, who was accused of contempt of court. The Chief Justice presided over the hearing of the petition filed by the complainant’s lawyer, who alleged that the Chief Minister had misused his official position.
The lawyer representing the complainant claimed that the Chief Minister, Saeed Afridi, had obtained a bail from the court and then misused it. The lawyer further alleged that the Chief Minister was addressing public gatherings in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, and was thus committing contempt of court by misusing the court’s order.
However, the Additional Attorney General (AAG) argued that Saeed Afridi is the elected Chief Minister of the province, and the complainants had filed a petition which had no legal standing. The AAG further stated that the complainants were not the affected parties, and the petition was not admissible.
