Kendrick Lamar became the center of attention during his 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.
The 37-year-old American rapper reportedly failed to win over fans with his live musical performance at the Caesars Superdome Stadium.
Lamar performed a medley of his hit songs before being joined on stage by renowned R&B artist SZA.
During his performance, Kendrick Lamar made a subtle reference to his ongoing controversy with Drake, stating,
“I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue.”
For context, 38-year-old Canadian rapper and singer Drake filed a lawsuit against Lamar last month, accusing him of including false pedophilia allegations against Drake in his song “Not Like Us.”
According to Mail Online, the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper refrained from mentioning the word directly, likely to avoid further legal action. However, he teased two other controversial lines, including,
“Say Drake, I hear you like them young, trying to strike a chord and it’s probably a minor.”
As Lamar’s Super Bowl performance went viral on social media, fans took to their X accounts to criticize him for sparking yet another controversy.
One fan commented,
“This was hands down the worst Super Bowl halftime show I have seen in my lifetime!”
Another fan penned,
“I hate that Kendrick made his career revolve around Drake now. He’s not even performing his classic songs.”
It is worth noting that Kendrick Lamar released his song “Not Like Us” in 2024, which led to Drake filing a federal lawsuit against Universal Music Group, claiming the song spread a false and malicious narrative to promote the singer’s diss track.
