The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is grieving the loss of Sgt. II Daniel VanHuss, who died in an off-duty motorcycle crash this weekend.
Sgt. VanHuss, who had been with the department for 15 years, succumbed to critical injuries from the accident on Sunday, July 21, according to a statement from authorities on social media.
VanHuss joined the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in 2009, was promoted to Deputy in 2011, and became a Corporal in 2013. He was elevated to Sergeant later that same year.
Throughout his career, VanHuss served in various capacities, including the Criminal Investigations Division, DEA Task Force, and the Street Crimes Unit. He was recently promoted to Sergeant II on July 15.
NBC 5 has not yet verified the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
