Reports suggest that Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hit it off “instantly,” with a source claiming they found surprising common ground. Insiders told PEOPLE magazine that there may be a romantic connection between the two after they were seen together on multiple outings in Montreal this week, igniting romance speculation.
On Monday, July 29, Perry and Trudeau were seen walking a dog through Montréal’s Mount Royal Park and later had a meal at a local restaurant. Trudeau was also spotted at Perry’s concert in Montreal.
A Canadian source revealed that Perry and Trudeau felt a mutual interest during their first meeting a few months ago. The 40-year-old American singer-songwriter recently split from Orlando Bloom in early July, with whom she has a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, and Trudeau, 53, separated from his wife, Sophie Grégoire, in 2023.
The source noted that exploring a relationship might be challenging for them due to their busy personal and professional lives. “They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the insider claimed.
“Perry is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common,” the source said. “Music is one of many things they can share. Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult,” they added.
The insider also noted that their co-parenting responsibilities with their ex-partners could make a long-distance relationship feasible. “For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two,” the source explained. Trudeau and Grégoire, who separated after 18 years of marriage, continue to co-parent their three teenage children: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.
