Karla Sofía Gascón’s eventful award season concluded at Sunday’s Oscars, and the “Emilia Pérez” star appears to be expressing gratitude for the experience. In an Instagram post, the actress thanked members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for nominating her in the best lead actress category and inviting her to the ceremony. “I truly enjoyed it, very entertaining and fun, especially your fabulous host Jimmy Kimmel, he resembles the great Conan O’Brien more each day,” she wrote, referencing a joke made by the show’s actual host, Conan O’Brien. During his opening monologue, O’Brien alluded to Gascón’s controversial social media posts that had disrupted her historic Oscar campaign, stating, “Karla, if you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.” A source disclosed to CNN last month that Gascón intended to attend the ceremony despite the backlash. On Sunday, Gascón was not observed seated near her “Emilia Pérez” co-stars but was photographed conversing with Selena Gomez. Typically, the cast of nominated films are seated in close proximity. Following the resurgence of Gascón’s tweets, “Emilia Pérez” director Jacques Audiard publicly condemned her, and co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Gomez were compelled to address the scandal in interviews. A source familiar with the film’s Oscar campaign previously informed CNN that Netflix had distanced itself from Gascón in an effort to salvage the movie’s overall chances. “Emilia Pérez” secured two Oscars out of its 13 nominations. Saldaña won the best supporting actress award, and the film also won for best original song. Gascón stated in her post that she “loved embracing so many friends and colleagues” at the ceremony and congratulated the winners, including Saldaña. She concluded by saying, “Thank you ‘Emilia Pérez’ for teaching me so many things.”
