Avoiding Controversy After the Cricket Scandal
MUMBAI – Renowned Bollywood filmmaker and talk show host Karan Johar has finally disclosed why he has never extended an invitation to the celebrated Indian cricket star, Virat Kohli, to appear on his popular show, ‘Koffee with Karan.’ This revelation underscores the impact of past controversies surrounding the show.
During a recent interaction, when Johar was asked which famous personality has never appeared on his show, the filmmaker paused before admitting that Virat Kohli has never been a guest, and the reason for this is “myself.”
Karan Johar elaborated on his decision: “I never invited Virat, and now I’m not even considering inviting any cricketer, especially after what happened with Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.” This statement indicates a clear caution on his part, influenced by the intense backlash faced in the past.
He further added that for several celebrities, he felt they would not accept the invitation, so he “didn’t bother to extend the invite.” (Meanwhile, news about Karan Johar’s dramatic weight loss has also been circulating.)
The Infamous 2019 Episode
Interestingly, while Virat Kohli has never been a guest, his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, has appeared on the show multiple times.
It is important to recall that in 2019, cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul faced severe backlash on social media for their controversial and misogynistic statements regarding women during their appearance on ‘Koffee with Karan.’ The episode was subsequently removed from social media platforms, and both players were suspended from the ODI series against Australia following the incident. Karan Johar’s current stance suggests a deliberate effort to prevent a recurrence of such a damaging controversy.
