As the much-anticipated Champions Trophy approached, the newly revamped Karachi Stadium was handed over to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to details, the tournament will commence in Pakistan on February 19, with the hosts facing New Zealand in the opening match. The opening ceremony will take place at Karachi Stadium, and preparations had been accelerated for the event.
The Karachi Stadium was handed over to the ICC for branding purposes. Broadcasters had also begun making arrangements in line with ICC’s requirements.
Furthermore, as per reports, the baggy cam, spider cam, and Hawk-Eye system will be installed at the Karachi Stadium.
In the stadium’s new building, ICC officials, match officials, anti-corruption, and anti-doping units will provide their services.
For the Champions Trophy, cameras for the match referee and other organizers have also been arranged in the new building.
Officials also reviewed the command and control system.
Pakistan will aim to defend its Champions Trophy title, which it won back in 2017.
Notably, the Indian cricket team refused to travel to Pakistan, citing security concerns, due to which their matches will be held under a hybrid model in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
