The University of Karachi has been at the center of a serious land grabbing and illegal construction case, with the state authorities yet to take any effective action. In a recent letter to the Sindh government, the University’s Registrar Dr. Imran highlighted that the land grabbing issue was first reported on September 25, 2025, but despite this, no official response was received, and no progress was made. The letter emphasized that the unauthorized land occupation and illegal construction not only interfere with the university’s administrative matters but also pose a direct threat to the university’s safety, autonomy, and academic environment.
The university administration considers this situation a challenge to the rule of law and the credibility of government institutions. In response, the University of Karachi has demanded that the Sindh government provide immediate administrative and legal assistance to address the issue and bring the perpetrators to justice. The letter, issued with the approval of the Vice Chancellor, was also signed by Dr. Musa, a member of the University’s Syndicate and former President of the Teachers’ Association, who warned that if the land of a major national institution like the University of Karachi is not protected, it could set a dangerous precedent for educational institutions across the province.
Meanwhile, in other news, the rescue operation at the site of the Gil Plaza fire has led to the discovery of more bodies, and the list of missing persons has been updated to include three additional names. The Sindh government has announced that assistance will be provided to the families of the victims from tomorrow.
