Karachi is likely to experience continued hot and humid weather over the next 24 hours as the port city remains gripped by a heatwave, the Meteorological Department announced on Monday.
The weather office further informed that the urban metropolis is expected to see a maximum temperature ranging from 39 to 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded was 25 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the Met office reported that the humidity level in the air is currently at 46%, with hot and dry winds blowing from the northwest at a speed of four kilometers per hour.
It is important to note that the meteorological department has forecasted that Karachi will remain under the influence of a heatwave until April 23rd.
Earlier on Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had warned Karachi residents to prepare for a heatwave-like situation with temperatures anticipated to climb as high as a sizzling 41 degrees Celsius.
With a halt in the sea breeze and a shift in wind patterns predicted, PMD Deputy Director Anjum Zaigham stated that temperatures across the city would remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal from April 20th (today) until April 23rd.
“We anticipate hot to very hot and dry weather during this period,” he said, adding that northwesterly winds would temporarily cut off the sea breeze, exacerbating the heat conditions.
In light of the heatwave, medical experts are advising the public to take necessary precautions.
Citizens have been advised by experts to avoid leaving their homes unnecessarily between 11 am and 4 pm.
Most plains are likely to experience hot and dry weather. The highest temperature recorded in the last 24 hours was 43 degrees Celsius in Jacobabad.
In contrast, heavy rain with thunderstorms occurred in Swat, Mingora, and surrounding areas late last night, resulting in pleasant weather conditions there.
Furthermore, the Meteorological Department has predicted strong winds and thunderstorms at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan today (Monday).
