A major terrorist plot in Karachi was foiled on Sunday as the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) carried out a timely operation in the Malir City area near Thando Nalo Bridge. During an intense exchange of fire, two militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were arrested in injured condition.
According to SSP SIU Amjad Shaikh, the detained suspects — identified as Khalid and Adil — were allegedly planning terrorist attacks within the city, including potential strikes on sensitive installations.
Police officials reported that the suspects opened indiscriminate fire when surrounded by law enforcement personnel, hitting a police mobile during the confrontation. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Officers returned fire, wounding and apprehending both militants on the spot.
Weapons, two pistols, and a motorcycle — believed to have been intended for use in future attacks — were recovered from the scene.
SSP Shaikh stated that both suspects have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, while the investigation has been expanded to trace their facilitators, associates, and intended targets.
Security analysts noted that the operation underscores the effectiveness of Karachi Police’s counterterrorism efforts, reflecting their readiness to neutralize emerging threats before they materialize.
