KARACHI: A sessions court in Karachi on Friday rejected the post-arrest bail application of Natasha Danish, the driver involved in the Karsaz road accident, in connection with a drug case.
On August 19, Danish, while driving a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser, collided with three motorcycles and another car on Karsaz Road. The accident resulted in the deaths of 60-year-old Imran Arif and his 22-year-old daughter Amna, and injured three others. Danish was subsequently arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Although Danish was granted bail in the murder case last week after the victims’ family pardoned her without any blood money, her bail application in the drug case was rejected by a judicial magistrate on Monday.
Danish’s lawyer, Aamir Mansoob Qureshi, challenged this bail denial before Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon. However, Judge Memon upheld the rejection of her bail plea, following arguments from both the defense counsel and the state prosecutor.
The defense argued that only one case should be registered for a single incident, while State Prosecutor Syed Khursheed Abbas Bukhari opposed the bail, noting that the case was still under investigation and the final charge sheet had not yet been submitted.
In the drug case, Danish was found to be under the influence of crystal meth, as indicated by her medical report. The Bahadurabad police registered a separate FIR against her under Section 11 of the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order, 1979 (PEHO).
Judicial Magistrate (East) Muhammad Raza Ansari had previously rejected Danish’s bail plea, stating that her lawyer had failed to satisfy the court regarding the allegations of sample manipulation.
