A spate of dog bites has plagued Karachi in the first 5 days of 2026, with over 850 cases reported in the city’s hospitals. One of the victims, a 41-year-old man, suffered a severe infection in his finger after being bitten by a dog at the Indus Hospital in Korangi. The rapid increase in dog bite cases in Karachi has raised concerns, with over 300 new cases reported at the Indus Hospital alone in the past 5 days. Additionally, over 300 dog bite cases have been reported at the Civil and Jinnah Hospitals.
According to Dr. Afzal Gohar, in-charge of the dog bite clinic, the majority of the cases have originated from Korangi, Habib Chaki, Baldia, Landhi, and Gadap areas. He warned that once the symptoms of rabies appear, the disease is almost always fatal and urged citizens to seek medical attention and vaccination immediately in case of a dog bite.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was killed in a shootout with robbers in the Kashmir Colony area of Mahmoodabad in Karachi. In a separate incident, a bus skidded off the road and crashed in a ravine in the Talagang area of Chakwal, killing 5 people and injuring 27 others.
