A case of monkeypox has been reported in Karachi, marking the city’s first known instance of the virus.
A young man, residing in Malir, tested positive for the virus and was immediately placed in the isolation ward at Jinnah Hospital.
According to medical experts, the typical symptoms of monkeypox include fever, body aches, and throat swelling. Dr. Saeed Khan, head of the Sindh Public Health Lab, stated that a similar case was reported in Sindh last year as well.
“The virus was detected in Sindh last year also,” Dr. Khan explained. He assured the public that measures had been taken to control the spread of the virus.
The Sindh Health Department confirmed that the affected individual remains in isolation at Jinnah Hospital.
