Karachi police have registered a case against Farhan Ghani, a PPP leader and Chairman of Chanesar Town, who is the brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani. The case was filed at the Ferozabad police station on a complaint by a government employee, Hafiz Sohail, who alleged he was attacked on August 22 while supervising fiber cable work on a service road near Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The FIR names Farhan and his five associates under charges of attempted murder and terrorism, along with other legal provisions. The PPP leader and town chairman is currently in police custody after he and four of his aides surrendered overnight.
In the FIR, the complainant, Sohail, stated that he is a government employee tasked with supervising underground fiber cable work. He said he was at the site when a group of 20 to 25 men, including Farhan, Qamar Ahmed, and Shakeel, arrived in three vehicles. The group allegedly confronted Sohail, demanding he stop the work and questioning if he had permission to dig the road.
Sohail claims he informed them that he had all the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and that the work was approved by the relevant authorities. He further alleged that Farhan’s men then assaulted him, pointed weapons at him with the intent to kill, and took him to a nearby petrol station office where he was tortured. A police van later arrived at the scene, rescued him, and took him to the police station.
In response to the report, Minister Saeed Ghani said his brother and his associates would face the law. In a statement issued on Sunday morning, the minister confirmed that an altercation had occurred between Farhan and Sohail the day before. He added that Sohail had exercised his legal right by lodging an FIR and that his brother and the others involved would present themselves to the authorities and contest the case in court. “They will prove their innocence before the court,” the minister stated.
