Karachi Police have dismantled a significant extortion network, arresting multiple individuals including Jawad Qadri and Shahzaib Mulla, during a targeted operation. The arrests follow a raid on Qadri House in Nazimabad, prompted by information from an already apprehended suspect, Rehan (also referred to as Rehmat Jamshed), who was reportedly involved in extortion and firing incidents in Jamshed Quarters.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Imran Khan confirmed the arrests, stating that a substantial cache of illegal weapons was recovered during the raid. SSP Khan revealed that the arrested suspects were operating the network for notorious extortion gang leaders Samad Kathiawari and Wasiullah Lakho. He added that the individuals were wanted by the police in connection with numerous cases and possessed prior criminal records, with further investigations currently underway. The police action against Wasiullah Lakho and Abdul Samad Kathiawari’s group was initiated based on actionable intelligence and technical evidence.
However, the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) has vehemently condemned the police action. A spokesperson for the PST stated that over 20 party officials and workers were arrested during the raid on Qadri House, accusing law enforcement of breaking CCTV cameras and using excessive force to silence dissent. The spokesperson emphasized that the voice of truth and justice cannot be suppressed through such tactics. Sarwat Ejaz Qadri, a prominent figure, was reportedly detained for a short period before being released.
