Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has apologized for the delay in the Karamabad Underpass project. The mayor made the announcement during the inauguration of the solar-powered streetlights project in Karachi. He stated that the delay in the underpass project was unfortunate and that he wanted to apologize for it.
The Karachi Mayor stated that the underpass project is being worked on at a rapid pace and that he urged his opponents to work and not just criticize without working. He also added that another project in 2026 was initiated under the manifesto of the People’s Party, and that the KMC (Karachi Metropolitan Corporation) has achieved a significant milestone for Karachi.
Wahab stated that for the first time, traditional streetlights have been replaced with solar-powered streetlights, and in the first phase, the streetlights from Faisal Street to the Airport have been converted to solar power. He also said that the streets of Iran and Ghulam Ali have also been converted to solar power, and that all the streetlights at the airport are now solar-powered, which cost one billion rupees.
The Mayor stated that if the streetlights are damaged, the contractor is being searched, and it has been included in the contract that the company that installed the solar lights will provide a guarantee for the next five years.
Wahab also stated that the KMC will save three crores of rupees annually through the use of solar-powered streetlights, and that the streetlights will not be shut off due to load shedding. He added that the KMC is progressing towards clean and green energy and that the KMC’s building has also been converted to solar-powered streetlights.
The Mayor stated that in the next phase, the streetlights of Mauj Kachhi and Shah Suleman Road will also be converted to solar power, and that new projects are being initiated and completed. He added that the Chairman of the People’s Party has made promises, and that they will fulfill them, and that they will tie the hearts of the people together according to the thinking of the People’s Party.

Wahab stated that the quality of the fiber optic cover is being checked, and if the fiber optic cover is successful, the cover will be installed throughout the city, and that the UCs are being given an additional one lakh rupees so that they can use it.
He also stated that all the UC chairmen were given a lump sum amount in December, and that they should work to solve the basic problems.
