A major fire in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar, Block 10, has left numerous families homeless after it destroyed a settlement of shanties. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported.
Fire brigade officials confirmed that the blaze rapidly engulfed multiple shacks. Five fire tenders were dispatched to the scene. After a difficult two-hour operation, firefighters successfully brought the fire under control.
According to an eyewitness, the fire was initially sparked by a short circuit from clashing electrical wires. The situation quickly worsened as gas cylinders inside the shanties began to explode, which rapidly spread the flames and intensified the blaze.
The fire completely destroyed the belongings of the nomad families living there, including several motorcycles. Fire brigade officials also stated that several livestock animals were burned in the incident.
