Karachi experienced its tenth earthquake within a 24-hour span on Monday night, causing apprehension among its inhabitants and authorities, although no casualties or structural damage have been reported to date.
The most recent tremor occurred at 11:16 PM, registering a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake’s epicenter was located southeast of Malir, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
Despite the low intensity, the high frequency of tremors in such a brief period has sparked concern among seismologists and municipal officials. Emergency services have been placed on high alert, and citizens are advised to remain calm but attentive.
Just a few hours prior, Karachi had felt another mild earthquake, marking the ninth tremor to affect the city within the last 24 hours, as confirmed by the Meteorological Department.
This preceding tremor, recorded at 8:49 PM, had a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad reported that its epicenter was approximately 30 kilometers east of DHA, at a depth of 13 kilometers.
Fortunately, no loss of life or property has been reported as a consequence of these seismic activities.

The Meteorological Department has issued a cautionary statement, indicating that minor tremors might continue to be felt in Karachi over the next two days. Residents are urged to maintain composure and adhere to standard safety protocols in the event of further seismic activity.
Earlier on Monday, Karachi had already experienced another series of earthquakes. According to the National Seismological Center, the tremor this morning measured 3.2 on the Richter scale with its epicenter near Quaidabad and a shallow depth. The Meteorological Department confirmed that the earthquake was minor, yet sufficiently strong to be felt across various areas of the city.
Tremors were reported from Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, Sherpao Colony, Port Qasim, and neighboring localities. Eyewitnesses described scenes of people gathering in open spaces amidst cries and confusion.
On Sunday night at 1:06 AM, the city was shaken by a 3.2 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter near Gadap Town. Tremors were felt in Khokhrapar, Malir, Landhi, Quaidabad, Future Mor, Gul Ahmed, and Hospital Chowrangi. No loss of life or property was reported in that particular incident.
