Karachi Electric (KE) has put forward a proposal for a Rs0.27 per unit refund for its consumers, which will be reflected in their March 2025 electricity bills. This refund is intended to compensate for the excess charges that were collected in October under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA).
In its petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), KE disclosed that a total of Rs461 million would be refunded to electricity consumers in Karachi.
This proposal follows an earlier offer where KE had announced a Rs0.16 per unit refund for the February 2025 bills.
The proposal will be examined in a public hearing scheduled for December 5, 2024. During this hearing, Nepra will evaluate whether the FCA was implemented according to the regulatory guidelines, whether KE adhered to the merit order for power generation, and whether the electricity was sourced from its own plants or purchased from external suppliers.
This refund proposal reflects KE’s commitment to addressing consumer concerns while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The final decision by Nepra will determine whether the refunds will proceed as planned.
