In a significant move to enhance traffic regulation and vehicle monitoring in Karachi, a dumper truck has been penalized with a hefty fine of Rs. 100,000 for failing to install a mandatory tracker device. The fine was imposed near Port Qasim Chowrangi, according to a statement from the traffic police.
Traffic police officials emphasized that the installation of tracking devices is mandatory for effective traffic management and comprehensive vehicle monitoring, particularly for large commercial transport like dumpers. The authorities stressed that despite multiple warnings, the dumper was non-compliant, necessitating legal action taken without discrimination.
This incident is part of a broader enforcement campaign in Karachi, where over 61,850 challans have been issued since October 28. Notably, enforcement has been non-discriminatory, with e-challans issued to 589 government vehicles, including 118 police mobile units.
Statistical breakdown of the violations shows that the highest number of fines—$41,431$ challans—were issued for failure to wear seatbelts, followed by $11,000$ challans for riding motorcycles without helmets. These stringent actions demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and regulated traffic system in the city.
