KARACHI: A government college superintendent has fled after allegedly misappropriating over Rs900,000 collected from students as examination fees, officials revealed.
At least 81 female students at the Government Degree College for Women, Nazimabad, had submitted a total of Rs910,200 in cash as exam fees, which the superintendent allegedly pocketed instead of depositing in the bank.
College Principal Shehla Bashir has filed an FIR at Rizvia police station against the official. According to the FIR, the suspect embezzled over Rs900,000 from the college students.
The principal informed the police that the superintendent had been absent from the college since January 25. She stated that the suspect personally collected the fees rather than depositing them in the designated bank.
Meanwhile, speaking to Geo News, police officials confirmed that efforts were underway to arrest the fugitive college official.
On the other hand, a student affected by the fraud expressed concern, stating that they had an exam today (Saturday) but had not received their admit cards.
Addressing the issue, the college dean stated that they had worked late into the night to collect and submit students’ documents to the board management.
“Most of the students’ admit cards have been delivered with the help of the board management, while the remaining ones will receive theirs today,” the official assured.
The principal added that the students were receiving their admit cards for the associate degree exams.
Officials further revealed that the students had paid extra money to the superintendent but were not provided with a voucher, despite clear instructions requiring one.
