The Chairman of the Association of Builders and Developers (Abad) Pakistan, Hassan Bakhshi, has stated that implementing fire safety measures within 3 days is impossible. During an interview with Geo News’ Shahzad Khayyam, Hassan Bakhshi emphasized that the list of 266 buildings is not limited to only builders’ projects. The SBCA authorities claim that taking immediate action would be beneficial for Karachi. They added that many buildings are 30 to 40 years old, and perhaps they did not even have fire alarms at that time.
Hassan Bakhshi further stated that fire safety measures should be taken on a continuous basis, as many new buildings have better arrangements. He emphasized that implementing fire safety measures within 3 days, even if desired, is not feasible. Unidentified individuals tied the pump staff with ropes before setting the building ablaze: 8 people are injured in the incident. Rescue officials said that a post-mortem of 48 people has been conducted, 86 are missing, and an operation is underway to retrieve possible bodies from under the debris.
