In a sudden turn of events, the Karachi Bar Association election scheduled for today has been postponed. According to President Karachi Bar Association, Amir Nawaz Waraich, the election has been put on hold due to the unavailability of the Election Commissioner, who is currently unwell. The new election date has not been announced yet.
Earlier today, the President Karachi Bar Association held a meeting with lawyers to discuss the issue of election postponement. The lawyers informed the President that the Chief Election Commissioner’s illness was the reason for the delay, and that the Registrar Sindh High Court had been written to for the appointment of an Acting Chief Election Commissioner. The lawyers also met with the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, who informed them that the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner was the responsibility of the Administrative Committee, and not the Chief Justice himself.
The lawyers have scheduled a meeting with all candidates at 4 pm at the Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium, where they will discuss the new election date. The Director of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions, Sindh, has also taken action against private educational institutions that have failed to implement the freedom of education law, as per the court’s order in the case of Sindh Free and Compulsory Education Act 2013.
