Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced in her Democratic National Convention speech on Thursday that, if elected, she will pursue a middle-class tax cut.
Harris criticized her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, for his lack of focus on the middle class, claiming that Trump’s tax plans are detrimental. “Instead of the Trump tax hike, we will pass a middle-class tax cut that will benefit more than 100 million Americans,” she stated, though she did not provide specific details.
Harris also denounced Trump’s tariff plans, describing them as a potential price hike and a threat to fair trade. She emphasized that building the middle class is a central goal of her presidency and promised to create an “opportunity economy” where everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
Last week, Harris unveiled proposals to cut taxes for most Americans, ban “price gouging” by grocers, and increase affordable housing. However, her agenda may face challenges from both corporations and Congress, which previously rejected similar proposals from President Joe Biden.
Harris’s speech aimed to highlight the differences between her economic policies and those of Trump, focusing on tariffs and taxes.
