MADRAS HIGH COURT: Indian film actor and Tamil Nadu MP Kamal Haasan has approached the Madras High Court seeking protection of his personal rights over the unauthorized use of a song called “Alaiyagani” from his 2008 Tamil film Dasavatharam. The 71-year-old actor not only wrote the script but also played the lead role in the film.
In his petition, Kamal Haasan has requested the court to stop the unauthorized, incorrect, and illegal use of his name, image, and title, and has cited an example of a Chennai-based company selling products related to him without his permission. According to reports, Kamal Haasan is under scrutiny for his bold stance on acquiring his rights rather than just acting in films.
Kamal Haasan’s move is similar to that of other film personalities such as Ashwarya Rai, Karan Johar, and Nagarjuna. He has approached the Madras High Court to seek protection of his personal rights, including any characteristic related to him, from unauthorized use without prior permission. The hearing is scheduled for January 12.
