Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, has stepped down from the position of the court’s administrative judge. He refused to sign routine administrative documents, stating that he no longer holds the post.
The former Chief Justice had appointed Justice Mansoor as the administrative judge of the Supreme Court. Over recent times, Justice Mansoor has been in the spotlight for his outspoken views on judicial matters, particularly concerning the 26th Constitutional Amendment and its impact on judicial reforms.
He criticized the amendment, claiming it disrupted the balance in the judicial appointments process by giving a majority to the executive in the commission, which previously prioritized judicial primacy.
Justice Mansoor also raised objections regarding the formation of benches and the functioning of the Supreme Court under the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure Act, 2023). He expressed his concerns through letters addressed to the Chief Justice and other judges, emphasizing the need for clear rules and fair proceedings in judicial matters.
