The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Monday approved the appointment of Justice Ijaz Swati as the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC).
The decision was made during a meeting of the JCP held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. The commission considered three names for the position under a single-point agenda and unanimously approved Justice Swati’s elevation.
Following the decision, the Judicial Commission formally conveyed its recommendation to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister through an official letter. Sources confirmed that the Prime Minister’s Office has been duly informed.
Justice Swati’s appointment now awaits the final approval of the President, in accordance with the constitutional procedure outlined in Article 175A of the Constitution.
Justice Ijaz Swati has been serving as a senior judge at the BHC and is widely respected for his legal expertise and judicial conduct. His elevation occurs at a time when the Balochistan High Court is addressing several significant constitutional and administrative cases.
The BHC had been operating without a permanent chief justice since the elevation of former chief justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan to the Supreme Court.
