In a significant move toward internal restructuring, the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s Full Court has officially approved comprehensive amendments to the Supreme Court Rules 2025. The approval came during a Full Court meeting presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi.
The crucial meeting was also convened to discuss the implications of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. According to the issued communiqué, the new amendments were sanctioned after a thorough and comprehensive review of the long-standing Supreme Court Rules 1980, modernizing the court’s procedural framework.
A dedicated committee comprising Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Irfan Saadat, Justice Naeem Afghan, and Justice Aqueel Abbasi was instrumental in preparing the draft of the revised rules. The Full Court’s endorsement marks a key step in enhancing the efficiency and clarity of the apex court’s proceedings.
In a matter of professional recognition, the meeting also unanimously approved the elevation of senior lawyer Munir Paracha to the distinguished rank of Senior Advocate Supreme Court. The Full Court reached a consensus on his nomination, acknowledging his significant contributions to the legal fraternity. This collective decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to both procedural reform and recognizing legal excellence.
