Johnny Depp recently shared insights into his experience of raising his children, Lily-Rose and Jack, in France alongside his former partner, Vanessa Paradis.
During an interview with The Sunday Times, the 62-year-old American actor and musician pointed to a painting behind him, revealing it was an unfinished portrait of his daughter, Lily-Rose, who was born to him and Paradis in 1999.
Depp commented, “I never finished it. She was 10 then, and 25 now.” He added wistfully, “Years get away from us, don’t they? I’m of the empty-nest syndrome.”
When the Pirates of the Caribbean star was asked what he missed most about his children being around, he humorously responded, “Oh man, my kids growing up in the south of France in their youth?”
Recalling those earlier times, he observed, “I was Papa. I cannot tell you how much I loved being Papa.” He continued, “Then, suddenly, Papa was out the window. I was Dad. But Papa was awesome, and I’m getting old enough for Papa to possibly come back. Some motherf***** going to have to call me Papa!” Depp asserted.
For those unaware, the Alice in Wonderland actor and Paradis concluded their 14-year relationship in 2012. It’s worth noting that they chose to raise their children away from public scrutiny at an estate near St. Tropez, which Johnny Depp acquired in 2001 before relocating to Los Angeles.
