John Mulaney has shed light on his decision to turn down the opportunity to host the 2024 Oscars. During a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast on Monday, the comedian disclosed that while he was initially flattered by the offer, he ultimately declined due to an already packed schedule, emphasizing that hosting the Academy Awards demands months of dedicated work.
“Well, I was very flattered. They came to me, must have been last summer. And I knew Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t gonna do it. And they offered it,” he explained. “And it was honestly that I had a lot going on. And it’s months and months of work.”
The 2024 Academy Awards were subsequently hosted by Conan O’Brien, and Mulaney commended O’Brien for his exceptional performance, noting how it injected excitement into the entire broadcast.
“He came out and he not only was so funny, but he elevated the show to the point that I almost convinced myself I had seen these movies and I’d seen not a one of them.”
It is worth mentioning that the Jimmy Kimmel Live star has previously hosted the Oscar Awards on four separate occasions.
