Jodie Foster, the Academy Award-winning actress, had long harbored a fear of acting in French cinema. However, years later, The Silence of the Lambs star revealed she had conquered her hesitation with her role in Vie Privée.
Recalling the reason for feeling “too scared” to act in French despite being fluent in the language, Jodie stated, “I had secondary parts [in French films] before, but I was actually afraid.”
“A number of directors offered me projects but I was too scared to act in French. I thought someone who was more familiar with French should do so. But I don’t really remember how things worked out this time around,” she said at Cannes, where her film premiered.
Further in the press conference, Jodie shared that she had “wanted to do for a long time but learning all the dialogue was a huge challenge.” She noted, “The great thing is that when I act in French, I’m a totally different person.”
Starring Jodie, Vie Privée is scheduled for release on November 26.
