Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel recently revealed that he has obtained Italian citizenship. He made the announcement during an appearance on The Sarah Silverman Podcast on August 7, 2025.
When asked about the reason for his decision, Kimmel directly linked it to the current political situation in the United States under President Donald Trump. He commented, “What’s going on is as bad as you thought it was gonna be,” and added that he feels the situation is “so much worse” than he had expected. Kimmel’s grandmother was of Italian descent, which allowed him to acquire the citizenship. He has not yet stated any plans to leave the US, but the new citizenship provides him with a potential option should he choose to.
For context, Kimmel has four children. He shares two adult children—Katie and Kevin—with his ex-wife, Gina Maddy, and two younger children—Jane and Billy—with his current wife, Molly McNearney.
