Jenna Ortega and Catherine O’Hara shared insights into the memorable dance scene in *Beetlejuice Beetlejuice* during an exclusive interview with NME. O’Hara, who returns to her role as Delia in the new prequel to the 1988 film *Beetlejuice*, spoke about the innovative scene that spotlights their characters, Astrid and Delia.
O’Hara described the dance as “ground-breaking,” noting that Ortega, known for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s *Wednesday*, was a key inspiration behind its creative direction. Ortega added, “You were the inspiration behind the performance art aspect of it. I think it read on the page as a proper dance, and you sparked an idea.”
O’Hara, 70, humorously responded, “I wanted the more… illogical to my mind… dance moves that kind of mean nothing in all modern… not all modern dance, modern dance is amazing.” She recalled practicing in a tent just off set, mentioning that Ortega performed a dramatic stunt that needed no further adjustments.
*Beetlejuice Beetlejuice* premiered on September 6, 2024.
