While co-starring in the NBC sitcom The Office, Jenna Fischer consistently held high expectations for John Krasinski. The 51-year-old actress recently appeared on an episode of Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey.
During the interview, the conversation shifted to her former The Office costar, 45, with the host inquiring if Fischer was surprised to see Krasinski direct 2018’s A Quiet Place, which starred his wife, British actress Emily Blunt. “It was a surprise to none of us,” Fischer stated on the show. She added, “I would always say to John, ‘I think you’re gonna be like our Tom Hanks.’”
Fischer drew a parallel to Tom Hanks, noting how his widespread popularity surpassed his 1980 sitcom Bosom Buddies, despite the two-season series being “a very famous successful TV show.” Of the 68-year-old Academy Award winner, she explained, “But, like, when you think of Tom Hanks, you don’t think of Bosom Buddies. You think of everything else Tom Hanks has done.”
She then recalled telling Krasinski, “‘I think The Office is gonna be your Bosom Buddies. Like, you’re going places.” Fischer also found Krasinski to be “very humble in that way,” as the comparison to Hanks was “very embarrassing to him” due to his higher regard for Hanks. “He doesn’t wanna be, like, fussed over like that. But I was like, no. It’s true, mister,” she added about Krasinski, who was named PEOPLE’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive.
