Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) have canceled their scheduled final performance at BST Hyde Park. The “Mr. Blue Sky” band was set to conclude their “Over and Out” farewell tour in London on July 13, but Jeff Lynne’s illness prevented the show from proceeding.
The band released a statement via social media, confirming that Jeff Lynne is “heartbroken” about the cancellation. The statement explained that Lynne is “battling a systemic infection” and a medical team has advised him that performing is “simply not possible at this time,” nor will he be able to reschedule. The band concluded by stating that Jeff is prioritizing his health and rehabilitation, keeping the band’s legacy and fans “foremost in his mind.”
This marks the second recent cancellation due to the vocalist’s health; their July 10 show in Manchester was also called off minutes before ELO was scheduled to take the stage. The band issued a last-minute apology for the Manchester cancellation on their official social media page, citing illness. They stated Jeff was “devastated he cannot perform,” and directed fans to seek refunds at their point of purchase.
