TOKYO: Japan’s Honshu Island has once again experienced significant earthquake tremors, escalating public anxiety in the region following a major destructive quake just two days prior. According to the European Seismological Centre, the latest tremor registered a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake originated at a depth of $31 \text{ km}$ below the ground. Initial reports received from Tokyo indicate that, fortunately, no casualties or major structural damage have been reported from this specific $5.7$ magnitude tremor.
However, this latest seismic event occurs against the backdrop of the powerful $7.5$ magnitude earthquake that struck the northern coastal area on Monday. That disaster has so far resulted in 51 injuries, caused extensive shaking of local buildings, and generated tsunami waves up to $70 \text{ cm}$.
Authorities had previously issued a critical warning following the $7.5$ magnitude quake, cautioning residents to prepare for the likelihood of even stronger aftershocks or new earthquakes in the coming days, maintaining the entire region in a state of high emergency preparedness.
