James Vince, the English cricketer who is part of the Karachi Kings team, has raised concerns about the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) policy, accusing it of favoring the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Vince feels that the ECB’s approach reflects clear double standards.
NOC Policy and Its Impact
Under the ECB’s No-Objection Certificate (NOC) policy, English players are not allowed to participate in leagues like the PSL and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) that coincide with England’s domestic season. However, the ECB grants exemptions for players to take part in the IPL, even though it overlaps with the English season. Vince pointed out that, since the PSL is a shorter tournament, players miss less domestic cricket, yet IPL continues to be preferred.
