The renowned Hollywood director James Cameron has expressed his desire to work with Telugu director SS Rajamouli on his upcoming film, Varaansi. In a virtual conversation with SS Rajamouli, James Cameron revealed that he is eager to visit the sets of the film and even shoot a few scenes himself. This conversation took place during the promotion of James Cameron’s latest film, Avatar: The Way of Water.
During the conversation, James Cameron expressed his gratitude to SS Rajamouli for taking out time from his busy schedule to promote the new Avatar film. He mentioned that he is aware that SS Rajamouli is currently busy shooting for Varaansi, but he would remember him once his new film is released in cinemas. He also expressed his preference for discussing collaboration with other filmmakers, saying, “I’d love to visit your set and maybe even shoot a few scenes. I’d love to work with you, and I’d love to have you as a part of my team.”
This conversation comes as a surprise, given that James Cameron had earlier offered SS Rajamouli a role in his film Avatar, which he reportedly turned down. The role was allegedly worth 18 crores, but SS Rajamouli opted out of the project. In the recent conversation, James Cameron mentioned that he would love to visit the sets of Varaansi and even shoot a few scenes, saying, “I’d love to visit your set and maybe even shoot a few scenes. I’d love to work with you, and I’d love to have you as a part of my team.”
Varaansi is a Telugu film directed by SS Rajamouli, starring Mahesh Babu and Pooja Hegde. The film is based on a story written by SS Rajamouli’s father, Vijendra Prasad. The film also features Prithviraj Sukumaran in a negative role and is set to release in 2027.
On the other hand, Avatar: The Way of Water is the third installment in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. The first film in the series, Avatar (2009), was a massive success, and the second film, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), also performed well at the box office. The new film is set to release worldwide on December 19, 2024.
