Jackie Chan has recently divulged a significant secret concerning his father. In a recent retrospective interview with People magazine, the renowned Hong Kong actor candidly recounted the moment he discovered a truth about his father, Charles Chan.
He began by stating, “One day, I was driving a car, my father suddenly said, ‘Son, I’m old. I might sleep and never wake up. I have a secret to tell you.'” Jackie then informed the outlet, “My father was a spy,” admitting that he was profoundly shocked at that time and unable to absorb any further details about his father’s history.
“Then, later on, five hours later, I said, okay. Now I’m ready,” the Karate Kid actor noted. The 2013 film, Traces of the Dragon: Jackie Chan and His Lost Family, which delves into Jackie’s past, reveals that his father served as a spy in the Chinese Civil War in the 1940s, while his mother was involved in opium smuggling.
Furthermore, he confessed that during his childhood, his parents found him uncontrollable, leading them to send him to a martial arts school. “[As a child, I was] very naughty. Very naughty, I never go to school. All the books in my backpack? I always throw them away,” the 71-year-old actor added. Concluding his remarks, Jackie Chan shared that his mother “never watched” his complete films. The moment he was “doing a stunt, she’d turn around.”
